Jeffrey Lee Pierce Memorial - March 6 in Los Angeles

The following is a re-post of a bulletin from Jacqui Pierce regarding the Buddhist Memorial Service in Los Angeles for Jeffrey:

It is that time of year again.

Memorial services are an important tradition for Buddhists.
In our temple, monthly memorial services (Shotsuki Hoyo),
usually on the first Saturday, when the deceased is
remembered annually on the month of his or hers passing.

In Addition traditionally on certain years following the death
of the beloved, a formal service (Nenki Hoyo) is observed
by the family. These years are 1st, 3rd, 7th, 13th, 17th, 25th,
33rd, and 50th.

After the first year Japanese custom of counting is used so the third year
service is actually performed in the second, the
seventh year service in the sixth year, and so on.

2008 will be the 13th year Nenki Hoyo for Jeffrey Lee Pierce,
who passed away March 31st 1996.

There will be a Nenki Hoyo service for Jeffrey Lee Pierce
at 4pm Thursday March 6th at the West Los Angeles
Buddhist Temple.

Members of Jeffrey Lee Pierce's family will attend.

Jacqui Pierce and John Faretra.

I hope this message finds you all and will remember Jeffrey Lee Pierce on this day.

Gassho
