Punk Turns 30

It's almost here! We are counting down to Friday's Get Hip Get Art Punk Rock Day of the Dead shindig. Check out what Pittsburgh's Pop Filter has to say about it: We will be showing images that have never been exhibited before! Come see and celebrate our recently departed punk rock icons Lou Reed, Mick Karn (below, of Japan), and many more. I recently restored all the frames from the single 24-exposure roll of film I shot when I saw Japan at the Starwood in Los Angeles, 1978. Born Andonis Michaelides to Greek Cypriot parents, in Nicosia in 1958, Mick Karn's family relocated to England when he was 3 years old.  He and David Sylvian, Richard Barbieri and Rob Dean formed the glam-influenced band Japan in 1974. Karn remained active in music until the end.  In 2010, he was diagnosed with late stage cancer, to which he succumbed in January 2011. Mick Karn, 24 July 1958 – 4 January 2011 RIP

I couldn't make a better looking page than Boo-Hooray did, so I'm simply sharing! John Holmstrom Punk Magazine Book Signing Thursday, October 24th, 6-9 PM Boo-Hooray, 265 Canal St #601 John Holmstrom, the man behind the legendary Punk  magazine and Mutant Monster Beach Party , will be at Boo-Hooray signing copies of  The Best of Punk Magazine . Come by tomorrow to pick up this crucial anthology full of artwork, articles, interviews, and photocomics revolving around the classic CBGB/Max's punk scene of the 1970s.  The Boo-Hooray exhibition Mutant Monster Beach Party is on view through Friday afternoon.
