Holidays In The Sun
The Sex Pistols made so many cool, fun and great singles. The artwork on all their picture sleeves showed a great sense of humour. Completely British and dry. Like the best of British comedy - Benny Hill, Monty Python, the Goon Show.. The Sex Pistols took the piss!
I really love "Holidays In The Sun" for a couple reasons...they're talking about the Berlin Wall! I've always thought that this record was the British inspiration for "Holiday in Cambodia" by the Dead Kennedys, of San Francisco, USA. "Holidays In The Sun" also had the most colorful picture sleeve, complete with the cartoon strip of a cheesy British holiday in the sun.
For all of their antics, to me, the Sex Pistols endure as a band with a timely sense of humour. No menace, no threat, no danger. Just good old fashioned irreverence.
That's punk rock. "A cheap holiday in other peoples misery."
