Power Pop in Punk Times

20-20 trio

20/20 were a power pop trio. Steve Allen and Ron Flynt were from Tulsa, OK where they went to the rival high school of Dwight Twilley and Phil Seymour. There must have been something in the water there, since all four of those guys headed out West and landed record deals and made some sweet pop records with harmonies, jangly guitars and all the requisite ingredients. 20/20 even had singles on the Bomp label; that imprimatur put them head and shoulders above the fray and before long, they had a major label deal. And they added another band member, Chris Silagyi on guitar/keyboards.

Here's one of those "It's all happening" backstage shots of band members Steve Allen and drummer Mike Gallo with Rodney Bingenheimer and a whole lotta girls whose names I do not remember.

There was a peaceful co-existence between power pop and punk in the LA scene, and both genres have their ardent supporters to this day. You can read a comprehensive 20/20 bio by clicking the title above.
