Punk Rock Weekend Kicks off a Punk Rock Summer

Pleasant & Kid Congo Powers

Kid Congo Powers DJs in NYC on Friday (tonight) May 30!

Boldly lifting from Kid's own blog:
Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down!
Friday in NYC
Shakin' All Over Under Sideways Down!: Maximum Rock'n'Soul Dancing, Home Sweet Home (131 Christy), 10pm, free w/ guest DJ KID CONGO POWERS

New York Night Train Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin has settled down the mobile Ants In Yr Pants Dance Party in a fixed spot - Lower East Side hot spot Home Sweet Home - and the party's been pumpin'. Friday's DJ is none other than the legendary Mssr.Kid Congo Powers, he of Cramps, Gun Club, Bad Seeds, etc - Kid's been spinning for some time now, accumulating an amazing collection, and rapidly establishing himself into one of the east coast's finest rock and soul party DJ's. He and Mr. Toubin have DJ-ed together at least half-a-dozen time and make quite the buddy movie. Expect to get down to raw party favors - obscurities, novelties, and classics at this Lower East Side hot spot – anything hot, nasty, and classic with a raw pumpin' heartbeat from the 1950s to the present.

Tom Potter

Tom Potter, one of my favorite persons, musician or otherwise, celebrates his birthday today. He is 101.. or so he would like to have you believe. I know better. Besides, he rocks like a 20-something year old bad ass 1977 punk. He's not that old, but just in case you were wondering, 1977 was a magnificent year for port. One of the finest vintages around. There's a parallel between port and punk rock... I think.. Regardless... I wish the brains behind Seger Liberation Army, Bantam Rooster, Detroit City Council and the fuzz baritone of the Dirtbombs, that crazy Chrome Spider a very happy significant birthday.

1976, the year I declare as the real birthdate of punk rock (although I celebrate 77 with the world) shares its finest vintage with my favorite of the Bordeaux wines - Chateau Margaux... from punk rock, vintage 1976, The Ramones...

Tommy Ramone

Tommy Ramone burst on to the bluegrass scene a few years ago in a duo with Claudia Tienan that they call Uncle Monk. Theirs is an alt-country indie bluegrass thing that has garnered critical acclaim from the No Depression crowd and Ramones fans alike. They kick off a brief tour next week:
