August 9 is a weird anniversary
ALSO - the last day you can get Cramped!

Effective on this date in 1974, the 36th/37th President of the United States, Richard Nixon, resigned from the Office. He was the only American President ever to resign (and still is... much to my dismay).

Also, as the night of August 8, 1969 turned into August 9th.... Charles Manson's followers were in the midst of "Helter Skelter," that is... committing the grisly mass murder of actress, Sharon Tate and her friends. That same night, Led Zeppelin performed at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California and on the 9th, they performed at the Anaheim Convention Center, which is situated in the shadow of Disneyland. What a juxtaposition.

Although the Manson Murders were horrific, their toll on human life was not even a fraction of a fraction as great as the toll America took on the citizens of Japan on August 9, 1945 when they dropped the bomb known as Fatman on Nagasaki although "Hiroshima" is the name history remembers most readily...

In the annals of punk rock history, on August 9, 1978, Rodney on the ROQ celebrated his 2-year radio show anniversary with a two-date engagement at the Whisky where he presented a showcase with The Pop, The Dogs, The Motels and The Weirdos.

Meanwhile at a less cool club, The Rock Corporation, a young Jeffrey Lee Pierce and his first band, The Red Lights performed.

Of course, Jeffrey went on to form The Gun Club, while his Red Lights band mate, Anna Statman went on to become a well respected (and she still is) A&R gal in the music biz.

A year later, on the 10th anniversary of the Manson Murders....

In 2008, on August 9, in East Nashville, Tennessee, the annual Tomato Art Festival is going on. I have a few pieces in the art show, including a variation of the Classic Cramps Group Photo... Today is the very last day you can buy or order this image... link is on the right hand side of this page....
