Memphis isn't the only town that's celebrating with a rock n roll party this weekend however.

Right off of frozen Lake Erie in Cleveland, there's the Beachland Ballroom which celebrates its 7th anniversary of bringing the rock by bringing you Alex Chilton & the Boxtops (tonight, March 2).

And on Saturday, March 3, The Beachland brings you the national record release party for Mary Weiss, the former lead singer of the legendary girl group, your favorite and mine, The Shangri La's. Mary will be backed by The Reigning Sound, who also back her on her Norton Records album, "Dangerous Game," due in stores on Tuesday, March 6.

Talking about March 2 and birthday celebrations would not be complete without wishing a happy to Lou Reed.

Lou Reed - 1976

If Iggy is the accidental inventor of punk, then Lou Reed is his guitar-slinging flip side. Consider they both have seminal albums involving David Bowie producing... they have David Bowie and Berlin in common, and The Stooges have Reed's Velvet Underground band-mate, John Cale as a producer as well, of their eponymous 1969 album.

Its a big weekend. If you aren't in Memphis or Cleveland, party anyway. Break out your records.
