Kim Fowley - Still at It
Doesn't matter where I am in the world, Kim Fowley tracks me down. Today, Kim found me in Nasvhille, where I'm staying with my lifelong friend, Joanna Spock Dean. Real fans and followers of LA Punk will recognize her name as the bass player of Backstage Pass, an all-girl band from LA that among other things, opened for Elvis Costello, housed the Damned when they were unceremouniously booted from the tour they were on supporting Television, and most secretly, facilitated the existence of the famous Masque club.
Because I'm travelling, I've yet to scan pictures or upload anything new - but I think I can bring you some updates tomorrow --- Spock herself is quite the visual artist and I think you should check out her photo images and manipulations here.
What does this have to do with Kim Fowley? Nothing much, except tonight we both chatted with him and it was one of those "old home week" conversations.... there's this story about Gram Parsons defending Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers in front of a crowd of bikers in San Bernadino, CA that Spock and Kim told me in tandem. But you'll have to read it in Kim's memoirs...
Tomorrow, I'm gonna have Spock scan some of my pictures that I'm carrying to the Vinyl Fever exhibits so I can share them with you. I think my prints are way bigger than her scanner bed, but we'll figure something out...
