Mick Jagger Turns 62 Today

Stiv Bators Live, originally uploaded by Theresa K.

So, in honor of Sir Mick turning 62 years old (hey... we can count, Mick!), I thought I would tell you a story about the first time Stiv Bators encountered Mick.

Don't you think they have a lot in common? They are the wiry lead singers of bands that defined a generation. They have a reputation for being bad boys as well as ladies men and both can claim having had some kind of relationship with Bebe Buell.

The Dead Boys covered "Tell Me," a Jagger-Richards composition on their second album, "We Have Come For Your Children."

While Jimmy Zero tells this story way better than I ever could, I'm going to tell you anyway. When you see Jimmy, make sure to ask him about this, because he will make you laugh.

New York City, some posh event, a movie premier or record release party - and both the Dead Boys and Mick Jagger are in attendance. Even among professional musicians, Mick has many fans, and they pay their respects by either a knowing glance or nod of the head. Those who actually know him, approach, they shake hands, exchange pleasantries.

Stiv however needs to make an impact. Stiv approaches Mick and asks, "Hey, do you know where the toilets are here?"

That's our Stiv!

Happy Birthday Mick. I won't be seeing you play this year. I don't have $500 for a concert ticket....
