Solo David Jo

David Johansen in his solo, "Funky But Chic" mode right after the New York Dolls went their separate ways. During his frequent shows at the Whisky A Go Go in the summer of 1978, you could see the beginnings of his Buster Poindexter guise in the drunken late sets. I guess lots of people are happy that David and Syl Sylvain paired up to do Dolls songs again... but I thoroughly enjoyed the old schoolness of all this.



Johansen is certainly eclectic... a little bit glam, a little bit Louis Prima, a little bit Harry Smith... a lot of charisma. Check out "Frenchette" from his solo days. You might just dig it.
