Kid Congo / Solo Cholo

Pleasant & Kid Congo Powers

Ladies and gentlemen, one of my oldest friends...Kid Congo Powers. That's a 1978 or 1979 photo of Kid with Pleasant Gehman. Kid needs no introduction - but the Readers Digest version is: cool LA teenager, member of the: Gun Club, Cramps, Bad Seeds, Knoxville Girls, Fur Bible, Congo Norvell and one really cool dude.

Kid has a new record and if you're in New York City, you can rock out to his Pink Monkey Birds and to the Congo Norvell reunion at a Kid Congo record release party! That's Friday March 3 at Tonic, 107 Norfolk St. on the Lower East Side.

Kid's solo record is called Solo Cholo. On it, he is backed by a bevy of all-stars from various points of his stellar career...check out this track listing!

A special treat for you Kid Congo completists is that there's not only the Solo Cholo record but also a Pink Monkey Birds records, "Philosophy and Underwear." Both records are released on March 3 and are available through New York Night Train and in fine indie stores everywhere.

You can read a well-written review of Kid's latest by another old pal of mine, Kurt B. Reighley in the Seattle Weekly.

Remember New Yorkers - March 3. Tonic. Kid Congo. Be there.
