Lorna Doom

This photo of Germs bassist Lorna Doom aka Teri Ryan was taken in the parking lot behind Licorice Pizza, a chain record store on Sunset Blvd. across the street from the Whisky on the same night as the picture you've seen here of Black Randy and Dickie Stan Lee and Patricia Morrison.

Those days, parking lots were the place where people socialized before a show started. For the Whisky, it was the Licorice Pizza lot. The Rainbow Parking Lot was quite a scene - next door to the Roxy, and known for its pizza, the Rainbow was a see and be seen place for rockers at all levels, scenesters and wannabes.

In the 70's, Belinda, Lorna, Donna Rhia all came from the Thousand Oaks neighborhood of Newbury Park. They often came down just for the night to simply hang out. Belinda and Lorna had a roommate, Melissa, who was the DJ at the Rainbow. In their earliest days living in Los Angeles, both Belinda and Lorna lived with me in the famous Lobotomy Apartment. They had had a place on Holloway, but it was suddenly uncool and unsafe to live there. It was while she was bunking there that Belinda birthed the idea of the Go-Go's and first played drums with the Germs.

The Germs just played in New York City at the Continental Club, at the place where the Bowery meets New York City. Hmm without Darby in front of this band, its not the Germs to me. Lorna looked beautiful in those few pictures I have seen from that show.
